I never grew up eating steaks. Maybe because my parents aren’t and we always prefer seafood over steaks. On one of our first dates, John brought me to House of Minis in Greenhills.

My first impression on the place was its gonna fall apart any minute now. (hahaha) Its too dark and too heavy (alot of wood). But the food at the time was superb! With each steak you order, a hearty bowl of soup with complimentary bread and butter, side salad and ice cream or coffee are included. It has been years since we have eaten at House of Minis, and this time we brought Peewee along.

We both ordered the mini Porterhouse since we were both hungry. As we wait for our steaks, we were served with two big bowls of hot cream of mushroom soup. The soup was delicious, subtle hints of earthy mushrooms, nice coating of fat from the cream and confetti of string beans, carrots and corn.

The dinner rolls were served hot straight from their toaster :). Soft, buttery little pillows of bread slightly sweet and best paired with those small cubes of ice cold butter. Once the cold butter hits the warm bread, it melts into the bread ever so slightly as I chew on the bread – a delightful play of cold and hot.

Through the years, the salad served has changed. A few years ago, iceberg lettuce leaves were torn by hand into bite size pieces, a couple slices of cucumber, shreds of carrots and a slice of juicy local tomato. Now, the salad turned into coleslaw. Maybe trying to maintain the prices for their local patrons but nonetheless the coleslaw was good.

As we cue our server for our steaks, it was served in sizzling plates. You’ll hear the crackling sound as it continues to sear the meat. If you are new to House of Minis, the server will ask you to shield yourself with the table napkin. Because as the gravy hits the sizzling plate, it may (and most of the time it will) splatter and smoke all over you. For gravy addicts out there, you can ask as much as you like. One bit of the steak you’ll know that it was aged. There is a meaty depth, very succulent and hearty. I usually order more than I can eat because I know John will finish off my plate.

Overall, House of Minis has been the same throughout the years. Time tested recipes and quality meats that surely meat lovers will enjoy.
