A week before Valentine’s weekend John and I were watching Captain Joy’s show. And I was too excited to contain what I saw that I immediately called my mother (She’s my lakwatsa partner and guru). She got excited too so we planned it.
Our supposedly weekend itinerary:
Saturday, February 13 we go here (see Captain Joy at 0:13, the guy in the blue pilot suit with glasses)
Then on Sunday, February 14 to here
But ended up here
En route to SM Mall of Asia from EDSA-Baclaran, traffic was at a stand still. We had to find other routes just to get to Mall of Asia. My parents gave up on going to Mall of Asia so we just had dinner at Hong Kong Chef Seafood Restaurant along Macapagal Ave.
We had an assortment of cold cuts consisting of Soy Chicken, Roast Chicken, BBQ Pork, slices of century egg and some jellyfish. Its typical, nothing to rave about.And the tiny cup at the foreground, the Spinach with scallops was a hit. Pureed spinach with scallops, silken tofu and some shrimps. Peewee didn’t like it because of the color. But all of us liked the soup.
Pancit canton with seafood was a big hit at our table. My mom kept saying that with just a few ingredients, the pancit was bursting with flavor. Simut-sarap!
The Beef Hot Pot was earthy like the beef was simmered in the thick sauce for days. The beef was so tender that it falls of the fork. Yummy.
Steamed fish fillet with garlic. My family always order this one whenever we go for Chinese. The fish was flaky and fresh. The sprinkling of the birds eye chillies (siling labuyo) gave this dish some kick at the end. The steamed fillets were atop of a bed of vermicelli noodles.
Shirmp Salad. Boiled shrimp mixed with fruit cocktail in a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce. It was okay because I’m biased with Peking Garden’s version.
Even though we didn’t get to do the things we wanted for this weekend, we were surrounded with a lot of love from family which is more important than any other adventure.
